here is the sign

A leaf of rocks on the hand-hewn stone trail from Vernazza to the sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Reggio. This installation was inspired by the first line of Motet VIII, written by Nobel Prize-winner Eugenio Montale who was born in Genoa and spent significant time in this Cinqueterre region of Italy.

Love that area of Italy.

When we were there in '96 we camped out high above Vernazza & hiked the 'Via Dell'Amore'.

I walked these trails just after a visit to Nice. In Nice I was mesmerized by a balance-man who defied gravity in a plaza. On this rocky trail I first stood a stone up on its end and felt the satisfaction that resulted. I was hooked on balancing things for years to come.
